Ubuntu Installation (pdf version)
- 1. (1 minute) Prep for install: Press the power switch, then the CD
tray button, then the [Del] key
The [Del] key in this lab starts the BIOS
a. Insert the Ubuntu CD in the tray
- (2 minutes) BIOS: where we can configure the boot order
a. Arrow ? to the BOOT menu
b. Press Enter
to access
c. Arrow down to Boot Device Priority
d. Target device order (names will vary)
1. CD
2. Hard Drive
3. Floppy
e. If this is the case, Press F10 to save and exit
f. If this is NOT the case:
i. Move down to item #1 and hit Enter
ii. Arrow to the CD and hit Enter
iii. If needed, repeat for #2 and #3
g. Press F10 to save and exit
- (25 minutes) Default Installation: The system should boot from the
Ubuntu CD
a. For installation, Choose Install and press ENTER
b. Choose Language
English should be selected, Enter
c. Select a keyboard layout
Your keyboard is: American English, Enter
d. Choose Chicago to get the Central Time Zone, Enter
e. Hostname:
make sure num lock is on
For name, enter computer number, such as
522-25
For username, enter generic (lowercase
For password, enter Password1, and repeat (Must
be capitol P, and number 1)
For machine name, enter computer number
without the dash, such as 52225
[Tab] can be used to move from field to
field, then Enter
h. Partition disks
i. Partitioning Method:
Erase entire
disk (/dev/hda)
p. Finish the installation
i. Continue, Enter
ii. wait for it to eject the CD
iii take CD out, to continue, Enter
iii. reboots for configuration and installing
packages
